Avec tout mon cœur (French for With everything my heart) is a 2017 French-language Canadian musical drama film loosely based on Jacques Offenbach's opera The Tales of Hoffmann. It tells the story of a group of entertainers dealing with ups and downs all while attempting to create a life in the heart of Montreal, under the shadow of unexpected consequences.
Sources and inspiration
Larson's inspiration for the content in Avec tout mon cœur came from several different sources. Many of the characters and plot elements are drawn directly from Jacques Offenbach's opera The Tales of Hoffmann, the world premiere of which was in 1881, which was 136 years before the release of Avec tout mon cœur. Late 19th century Nuremberg is replaced by present day Montreal.
